This landmark work by Dr. Yosef ben-Jochannan (“Dr. Ben”) is one of the foundational texts of Afrocentric scholarship. In African Origins of the Major “Western Religions”, Ben-Jochannan challenges traditional narratives by tracing Judaism, Christianity, and Islam back to their African roots, particularly in ancient Kemet (Egypt) and along the Nile Valley. The copy in my collection is a true first edition from 1970, published by Alkebu-lan Book Associates. Early Alkebu-lan pressings were produced in limited numbers, often circulated heavily within grassroots communities, and few survive in strong condition. This rarity adds to its value as both a cultural artifact and a personal source of inspiration. I hold this book not only for its historical importance, but also for how it reminds me to question inherited narratives and seek the deeper roots of human knowledge.
